One Of Us Is Lying (Chapter 1)
I had ordered my book online a few weeks ago, but it hadn't arrived so I finally decided to repurchase it on my kindle and read it there. Sorry for the delay on the blogs.
The book I will be reading is, One Of Us Is Lying by Karen McManus.

Summary
On a school day, Bronwyn was scrolling through the gossip app "About That" as Simon, the creator of the app comes up behind her. It is an app where Simon writes rumors that are mostly accurate, about students of their school, and Bronwyn is scared that her life will be ruined next. Bronwyn and Simon are heading down the same hallway and soon realize they are both going to detention in Mr.Avery's lab. When the two of them get to the lab, three other students are already there. They all are devastated to be there since they all have places they'd rather be. Bronwyn tries to plead her case and insists that the phone Avery found in her bag was not hers, and she had kept her own phone in her locker. It turns out that three of the other students, Cooper, Addy, and Simon were all shocked because they all had a "dummy phone" in their bags too. Simon suspects Nate since he is a drug dealer and a troublemaker but, Bronwyn thinks that Nate is not someone who is bothered in planning such a scheme. None of them seem to be successful in convincing the teacher, so they are all assigned to hand-write an essay for the next hour.
Halfway through the chapter, the narrator changes from Bronwyn to Cooper's perspective. As they all dreadfully write their essays, Simon becomes thirsty but since he could not find his water bottle, he went to the back of the classroom, fills a cup of water that he took from the stack on the counter. Suddenly, there is a loud crash outside the lab in the parking lot. Nate gets up to see what happens and everyone else gradually joined Nate and gathered by the window ledge. Mr.Avery left the classroom to check on the car accident that had happened to leave Bronwyn in charge. Simon takes a sip of his water and saying the water tastes terrible. Cooper thought he was being dramatic but, moments later Simon collapsed onto the floor. Everyone starts to panic, several teachers rush in, Bronwyn calls 9-1-1, and Mr.Avery insists Cooper go find an EpiPen from the nurse room that turns out to be empty. By the time Cooper returns to the lab, the paramedics have arrived and Simon was on a stretcher being carried away. The four students in the lab were left flabbergasted. Addy is crying in the corner and asks if Simon will be ok, but Nate admits that he doesn't think he will make it.
Reaction/Thoughts
I had known that this is a mystery book and an emergency was bound to happen, but I most definitely did not expect Simon being carried in a stretcher within the first few pages. I thought that Simon would be one of the main characters throughout the book and continue to make rumors about the school.
Leading up to the scene where Simon fell to the floor, him drinking water out of a cup was extremely emphasized which I thought was odd. The nurse room being empty and the drawer with the EpiPen being empty was all very strange and suspicious, so I am excited to see what really happened and who planned this scheme and why Simon was targeted.
