One Of Us Is Lying (PART 3 Ch.19-21)
PART THREE-TRUTH OR DARE
Summary
Chapter 19
Nate
Nate's mother is talking with his father while he tries to figure out what to send to Bronwyn after what she had witnessed. He truly also thought his mom was dead or probably was, but could never tell the truth to Bronwyn and still did not know how to. As his mother came down, he gestured to the dilapidated house and asked how her parenting has turned out really disappointed in her, not showing any signs of forgiveness. He shows no appreciation to his parents who have left him to take care of his own life and even his parents' life.
He went on a bicycle ride for hours trying to process the sudden appearance of his mother. On his way home at midnight, he received a call from Bronwyn which made him relieved.
Bronwyn
She is nervously sneaking Nate into her house past midnight even after making her parents absurdly disappointed for hiding two blog posts by Simon to them. Nate arrives at her house and she asks him about why he had kept secrets about his mother. They talk the truth for hours and officially become girlfriend and boyfriend.
Chapter 20
Cooper
He is very concerned and insecure about his relationship with a guy, definitely not confident enough to tell the whole world about it. He is scared to tell his father after 17-years of being the son he had asked for. He was scared that somehow Simon would figure out that Cooper was gay and was totally expecting that unpublished article to be about his relationship with Kris when it turned out it wasn't.
Nate
He arrives half an hour late to his dinner with his mother. From the first few moments he got there, he already was desperate to leave. Her mother shows her will in helping him and his father after all these years. As he leaves his mom to go anywhere else than where his mom is, he is stopped by television producers.
Chapter 21
Bronwyn
It turns out the television show that has been chasing the four characters around "Mikhail Powers" is out front of the school and Vanessa is telling the television how guilty they are. While Bronwyn, Maeve, and Cooper are having lunch together, Leah comes over and interjects their conversations declaring they should give themselves in and tell the interview crew they are the murderers. Marve(Bronwyn's sister) surprisingly steps in and defends her sister. Maeve suggests Leah go talk to the press and give them a new side to the story which makes Leah abruptly state she might as well do so.
Maeve has been continuously researching as Simon on other platforms and on the thread for days. She has decided to send Simon's 4chans thread to the Mikhail Power's team and stomps away.
Addy
Addy got a severe injury in PE class and limped her way to wash it and saw Janae on her way there. She hadn't talked to Janae nor Bronwyn after her sister had called Simon out a couple of days ago. Janae started to talk about himself and how he had been struggling the past few years and stumbles upon words talking about how good of a person he is. They make plans to hang out at Addy's house that afternoon which makes both of them very excited feeling like "real friends" now. They are sitting in Addy's room when Janae says she doesn't feel well. Addy texts Bronwyn in frustration but her reply was "Be careful. I don't trust her."
Thoughts
Only until a few chapters ago, I had thought that one of the four students had had to have killed Simon but I feel like each and every one of them is innocent. The story is so fascinating and deep because the death of Simon creates relationships that would never have been made if this had not happened. There is so much more to this and a lot of complicated backstories to this accident and in the process of figuring it out. I had thought that this was going to be a novel completely based on figuring out the suspect and did not predict all the romance, humor, kindness, and how relatable the stories can be. When reading a novel, I always wonder what certain characters would be thinking at that moment, and this novel tells you exactly what you want to know and who is thinking of what in that situation.
